LATE LUNCH AT METRO CAFE, WUSE II, ABUJA.

Lifestyle

When larisa and i decided to meet, we chose to have a late lunch at Metro cafe, wuse II, Abuja as the meeting point cause she is a foodie just like me and i never pass up on the opportunity to visit a new place. We met in the evening after working hours and i headed to metro cafe immediately after work, larisa arrived shortly and we clicked immediately.
PS: Larisa is a fab blogger i met at the winnysmeals blogger taster event. Who remembers her? If you missed that post, you can check it out HERE. Well, i liked her so much when i saw her, she has a fab personality, and her dress sense is out of this world, you don't believe me? Then check out her blog HERE. She is also one of the nicest person i ever met in the blogsphere, i just knew i had to build a friendship with her.  This is not the best picture of her but..

So what about metrocafe?

LOCATION AND DECOR

Metro cafe is located in wuse II,  Abuja. Obviously. Specifically at 43 Libreville crescent, wuse II. Now i can't say i love the the location, cause it's in a crescent for one, which means hold up during rush hour, and it doesn't really have a compound to itself which means parking on the road and on some occasion having to fight someone else for parking space. And also, not all cab men know Libreville crescent cause the name is not such a household name, but if you have been in Abuja for a while, then you should have no trouble finding the place.

Now the decor of metro cafe is something I'm seriously loving, okay, i don't know about you but seeing a restaurant and a automobile shop paired together may seem a bit unorthodox but to me, it's the smartest thing ever, that gives it both a strategic advantage and oozes a modern metropolitan vibe. The restaurant itself is divided into two section, the first section is enclosed and cozy, with dim lights and high chairs (perfect for a date, or picking up someone new *wink) while the second one is bright with big open windows (so you can look outside) and low comfortable couches to just slouch and relax on. (perfect for afterwork meetings and friendly eat ins) Just like me and larisa did.

MENU AND SERVICES

Now this is were i had a little trouble with metro cafe, the service was slow, and we had to be calling out to the waiter everytime we needed something which was often. We even had to call him to bring the bill even after he had packed our leftover food. I wasn't too happy with having to always turn away from my food to call on the waiter.

The prices on the menu was a bit steep in my opinion, so many basic things were a bit out of line (in terms of price) but just a bit. Also some of the things on the menu were not available which is not good (take something off the menu if it's not available) (take note metro cafe) i took a picture of the menu but i think larisa has them, but you can expect everything (+drinks) to be #1500 and above. Side dishes are #800

THE FOOD

The food took a while to arrive, and normally i would be a bit pissed but i wasn't cause i was having such a great time with larisa watching the outdoor activities from inside the cafe and discussing so much that i didn't mind. Here's what we ordered..

 Basic stuffs

  • Chicken wings
  • Chicken stir fry (we wanted prawns but was unavailable)
  • Fried rice
  • Jollof rice
  • Lemonade
  • Chapman

CONCLUSION

My favorite thing about metro cafe has to be the decor, i mean i love places that look like they have history behind them, but most restaurants in abuja these days just try too hard. The minimalist and upscale vibe i got from metro cafe was just refreshing.

I loved the serving style and the fine china used, i even loved the presentation of the cutlery, the waiter though didn't know anything about table arrangements and just kept our food wherever he pleased. I wasn't pleased with the service at all, but i suppose it was rush hour so i'd give a pass.

The food??  Uh.. The drinks were superb, the lemonade was really good i almost had another glass, the chapman which larisa had was the basic. As for the food, i have to say the chicken stir fry was really really good, i loved it and it saved my rice cause i felt the rice was too bland for me, (i love a little spice in my food please) Other than that everything else was basic. I didn't hate the food. But it didn't blow my mind. Maybe it was cause i was too hungry, i dunno.

PS: I loved the bathroom, infact the bathroom is my favorite place in metro cafe, neat and white and the lightening is bomb ass! Perfect for bathroom selfies.

Ohh, and for data hoarders, there's WIFI available on request at metro cafe,  trust that larisa and i took great advantage of this!

And for all this reasons, i will definitely be going back to metro cafe! And if you ever find yourself in Abuja and in need of a spot to eat a late lunch, then you should definitely try metro cafe. You are bound to find the vibe of the place refreshing. SIDENOTE: If you like spicy foods like me, you may just have to come with your dried pepper (yaji) in your bag.

The food does look good, and you are right, the service in most Nigerian restaurants is really poor, management need to step up their game. One time i went to a restaurant and the waitress actually opened her mouth to tell me to hurry up and order because she is busy, can you imagine?

If i want to list my annoyance with Nigerian restaurants, there won't be enough space, first sometimes waiters don't know anything about the food on the menu, they are rude, they are slow, they are sloppy, they grumble and the gossip. The food is sometimes cooked by unqualified people and you end up eating something oda dan wt u asked for. The prices are too high for such shitty service, the management too relaxed. No order.. The list is long my dear, anyway nice post, will check the place out wen im in abuja.
