Meghan Markle was born on August 4, 1981 in Los Angeles to a Caucasian father and and African American mother. Earlier on, Markle worked as a freelance calligrapher to support herself between early acting jobs. In July 2011, she played the role of Rachel Zane on the USA Network series suits. She completed her work on the series seventh season in late 2017.

Markle will be the second American and first Person of mixed race heritage to marry into the British royal family. Since Harry is sixth in line to the throne at the time of his engagement, he had to obtain the Queen's permission to marry under the succession of crown Act 2013, which allows the monarch to approve or disapprove marriages of the first six persons in line of succession.
