It was reported in October 2016 that Prince Harry had entered into an intimate relationship with American Actress Meghan Markle. On 8 November 2016, Kensington Palace confirmed that Prince Harry was "a few months" into a relationship with American actress Meghan Markle, in a statement from the prince asking for the "abuse and harassment" of Markle and her family to end. In September 2017, they made their first public appearance together at an official royal engagement at the opening ceremonies of the Invictus Games in Toronto.

Meghan Markle was born on August 4, 1981 in Los Angeles to a Caucasian father and and African American mother. Earlier on, Markle worked as a freelance calligrapher to support herself between early acting jobs. In July 2011, she played the role of Rachel Zane on the USA Network series suits. She completed her work on the series seventh season in late 2017.
Markle will be the second American and first Person of mixed race heritage to marry into the British royal family. Since Harry is sixth in line to the throne at the time of his engagement, he had to obtain the Queen's permission to marry under the succession of crown Act 2013, which allows the monarch to approve or disapprove marriages of the first six persons in line of succession. The Queen's consent was declared to the privy council of the United Kingdom in March 2018.
