Before Dawn is a short narration of a young woman’s journey into widowhood and her struggle through loss and rebirth.

Throughout the two hours it took me to read this book, my heart remained in my throat, I was sad and I was angry and then I was sad again. The moment I finished reading this book, I just laid there in my bed and stared into nothing for a good thirty minutes. That’s how much I was gripped

I don’t want to scare you. But that’s how I felt, I had taken up this book expecting the usual sop story of a Nigerian wife whose husband died and family turned against her.. I was sorely mistaken.

Before dawn is a book that surprised me, to say the least. It felt like I was living this woman’s life, I wanted to scream sometimes and other times I wanted to cry. This book will break your heart, and it will make you soar.

According to David Whyte, pain is appreciation. And in pain, we have no choice but to become visible to others.

This was how the book started and by the middle of the book I could understand and I could feel and her pain had become visible to me in ways I did not expect.

The beautiful thing about this novel is that it was able to show pain and yet endurance, teach patience, survival forgiveness, living beyond your emotions, making rational decisions and the importance of genuine love.

This is a true life story of a woman whose idyllic marriage is hit by a rollercoaster of a series of heartbreaking events. When she finds herself headed towards a rendezvous with heartache and loss, will she be swept away by the storms of fate or will she stand fast as an anchor for herself and her young family?
